Protests erupted in cities throughout the U.S. on Friday after the town of Memphis launched body-camera video of a violent confrontation between a Black motorist and 5 cops charged with homicide in his dying.
In a Tennessee grand jury indictment returned on Thursday, the 5 officers, all Black, have been every charged with second-degree homicide, assault, kidnapping, official misconduct and official oppression within the dying of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old father.
Nichols succumbed to accidents sustained from his encounter with police and died in hospital on Jan. 10, three days after he was pulled over whereas driving.
Nichols’ dying marked the most recent in a spate of high-profile circumstances of cops accused of utilizing extreme drive within the deaths of Black individuals and different minorities in recent times, sparking public outcries towards systematic racism within the U.S. felony justice system.
