The suspect within the assault on writer Salman Rushdie has been charged with tried homicide, police mentioned.
After the assault, police detained Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey.
Matar was formally charged with tried second-degree homicide and second-degree assault,” Chautauqua County District Lawyer Jason Schmidt mentioned in an announcement on Saturday.
“He was charged final evening on these prices and remanded in custody with out bail,” the assertion added.
Rushdie, 75, suffered liver injury, fractured nerves in an arm and eye, was on a ventilator and couldn’t converse, his agent Andrew Wylie mentioned Friday evening.
“The information will not be good. Salman is more likely to lose one eye, nerves in his arm have been severed and his liver has been stabbed and broken,” his agent, Andrew Wylie, mentioned in a written assertion.
