Man dies after falling into ravine on Mt Ngāuruhoe

A person has died after falling right into a ravine on Mt Ngāuruhoe on the Central Plateau.

A bunch of individuals have been climbing Mt Ngāuruhoe close to Tongariro on Friday when he fell.

Police have been notified at round 5pm on Friday night by the New Zealand Rescue Coordination Middle after a private locator beacon activation was obtained.

Though the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter rapidly situated the scene, the person was pronounced useless on the scene, police stated.

Senior Sergeant Shane McNally thanked everybody concerned within the restoration on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

“Whereas it is a tragic consequence, we’re happy to carry his physique house to his family members and our ideas are with them at this tough time.”

The person’s loss of life was reported to the coroner.

With the assist of the Division of Conservation, the police and LandSAR, the rāhui was positioned on Mt Ngāuruhoe.

The Division of Conservation has requested all hikers in Tongariro Nationwide Park to think about using different routes and keep away from Mt Ngāuruhoe till the rāhui is lifted at dawn, Tuesday 9 August.
